Share your techniques for replacing a multi-gang rotary switch
« on: January 31, 2023, 04:45:48 pm »
I have to replace a multi-gang rotary switch in a marantz receiver.  I'd like to avoid any mistakes so the best option would be to move one wire at a time from the old switch to the replacement switch.  I've attached a photo which shows the switch.  As you can see there is no room to place the replacement switch along side the original so I can move one wire at a time.  I have taken a lot of photos.  There are many wires the same color.
Would you share your past  experiences and techniques on how you went about replacing such a switch.

Thank you for your input.
Chuck

Applying some sort of code to ends of wire insulation + old and new switches with 2 or 3 different coloured markers / paints ?

Thanks for your suggestion.
I ended up labeling the wires as you suggested.

Is that by any chance a Marantz receiver?

That was also my first thought seeing the photo. Not that certain after all, I'd say definitely Japan-made.

Yes.  This is from a Marantz receiver.  1710527-0
The bottom left section was completely broken off.  See photo.
I'm not sure how it happened as there is no damage to the case or face plate.

I replaced the switch and the unit is working fine.
