Siemens Induction Hob Repair "E0142"
« on: December 10, 2021, 11:49:25 am »
So I have this Induction Hob, that I have wasted way to much time on already.

It is a Siemens EX645FCX1E Induction Hob.
The right side works without problems.
On the left side the top field thinks a pot is always present (set number displays constantly, not blinking, when no pot is present), but doesn't heat anything.
The left bottom field, immediately after choosing the desired power, shows "E".
After pressing and holding the cook field sensor, it shows error code "0 1 42" (see attachments).
I have worked my way through the two attached documents. I couldn't find this error code.

Everything I checked so far:
  • Technical services program for touch control: All sensors working correctly.
  • Opened it up. Visual inspection, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Power on both sides.
  • Checked power input protection on the main PCBs.
  • Checked every relay individually. Nothing is stuck.
  • IGBT Diodes have good forward voltage (~0.45V), resistor values look normal (RGE: ~9.7k \$\Omega\$, RCE > 100k \$\Omega\$)
  • All bridge rectifier diodes have good forward voltage values (~0.5V)
  • Heating coils have good resistance values (~0.3  \$\Omega\$]
  • NTCs react to warmth of touch, good resistance values (~90 \$\Omega\$)
  • Fan works fine

I have run out of ideas so far.
Did anyone encounter similar problems, or does anyone know what the error code "E 0 1 42" means?

Thanks,
best regards,
Niko

I had the same hob but got a different error. Newly purchased and only the right side was working. Left side completly dead.. With another unknown error..

You can call the Siemens support they will explain you this error code and if you have still warranty left you should get a visit from a siemens technician for free.

We got a new left side pcb (new pcb, new software flashed and checked if everything is working (the technician can see temperature and the amount of power used by the pot (he informed us that our pots aren't good (they took 500W less the hob could supply), so we bought new ones which are heating up faster now))).. it was "out from factory defective"... (great end of line quality check ;-))

Sadly the error occured a few months after the end of the 5 year extended warranty.  :-\

And I called Siemens support:
Siemens Support: "With this error code a technician has to come and have a look at it."
Me: "OK, but what does it mean?"
Siemens Support: "That a licensed technician has to come and have a lokk at it."
Me: "I understand, but what is the technical fault? What does the error code say?"
Siemens Support: "Your error code means, that a Siemens technician has to come and have a look at it.
Me: "..."
Siemens Support: "Are you still there?"

 |O

And regarding the hobs: I measured resistance on all 8 induction hobs, the ones that work and the ones that don't. They all had the exact same resistance (0.3  \$\Omega\$), so I guess, they should be fine, right? Because they are basically just a wire wrapped around a metal coil, right?

Thanks for the answer,
best regards,
Niko

Hmm ok,
maybe you should call them again and hope that you have anoterh guy with a bit more "kindness"...

My callcenter guy explained me that my issue has something to do with the controling of the left side and that there is something like a connection issue..
Ok... not very informative....

And it looks like he was wrong... the pcb was changed so possible a bigger issue..

Have you tried swapping the coils around? A shorted turn is not easy to detect with a resistance measurement.
