SIGLENT SDS1202X-E troubles
« on: March 09, 2021, 12:57:20 pm »
Hi All. It's my first post in this blog. :)

I'm searching around looking for a solution for the problem arised with my 1202X-E: the instrument is quite new (end 2019), and it was running with no problems, until last week....

Last week I've loaded on the machine a wrong licence key (in fact not dedicated to the 1000X series), and after the reboot the instrument had lost all the connection features, so is not more seen and reacheable from a PC via USB or LAN, the bandwidth is downgraded from 200 to 50MHz, and from System Info I can notice that the string of the Product ID is blank (only that string): the instruments don't know to be a 1202X-E anymore...

All the functions and features seems to run correctly, boots normally, but no way to return to a factory reset and recover from that condition of totally deaf and heavy sight-impaired: over the limit of 50MHz the signal levels displayed decreases too much, as it did before but with signals at 400MHz...

I've tried all the known remedies, from PowerON+MATH, last FW reloaded (the USB pen are seen normally), etc... No way to have the system back.

The LAN interface is certainly alive and pingable at his last-known IP but the OS refuses an SSH connection. |O

I've read in some post that someone was able to connect to the instrument via telnet, but at the moment it seems to me not a way: how? and the credentials are unknown to me.

Having some skills in electronics and IT, I suppose can't avoid to open the box, (losing any possible official  warranty right), to find some serial port on the PCB useful to reach the system.
Anyway if there is a solid way to recover that situation by remote I'll be happier....

So I hope that between the numerous skilled user of this Forum I'll find someone who can help me, driving  me through a clean procedure to restore the pristine conditions of the scope.

Many thanks for your kind attention. I hope you will excuse my poor english...best regards, ciao.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you mean you loaded an incorrect firmware version ?
Can you give more information please.

Your mistake is there are no improvements possible for SDS1202X-E. It already is a 200 MHz only platform and there are zero options available for it so it is best not tampered with in any way.

I have a request to the factory for a recovery package for you however no reply as yet....maybe tonight.
Send me a PM with your email and we will try to get you fixed in the next few days.

Yes tautech, no doubt I've done a stupid thing. But I've realized it 10" too much later..... :palm: ::)

Your words are for me something like this verse from the "Divina Comoedia" (Inferno, canto V): ...come colombe dal disìo chiamate...
I'm sure you will translate correctly without problems, but anyway I say to you a big thanks!!

Hope you'll receive the package from the factory very soon.
In the meantime I'll send you a PM immediately.

                                                          Thanks again, ciao!!

How it was solved in my case:
restore firmware to 1.3.17R1
- now scope reports SDS1052X-E
SCPI is working i can send MCBD with 200 MHz key and reboot
- now scope reports SDS1202X-E again and responds fast
now update firmware to 1.3.26
do self/ca .. all is okey again :)

i guess in the 1.3.26 the support for lower bandwidth was removed, so sending a wrong bandwidth, 350 MHz in my case... sets the scope to lowest.. 50 MHz..
but in the latest firmware it does not excist so it goes all crazy... downgrading it to 1.3.17R1 does have that support.. and give you the change to send the correct key again.

this were exiting days :)

Also thanks to @Tautech who was there to support me, amazing service sir
