Slingbox 350
« on: September 18, 2017, 02:28:39 am »
Is there anyone out there that can tell me the value of C352 on a Slingbox 350?

If it goes to 5 pin regulator it is 10-100u tantal. Why are you asking?

Yes - as viewing the picture the trace from the left of C352 goes to the left pad of R386 and the top left pad of U29

It is a 0402 (1005) capacitor

I can't seem to find the AEG marking.

I don't see another AEG on the board to see what it might have.

It looks like I could only get 10uf, 15uf, and 22uf @ 4V  from the common online suppliers. I am waiting on a mosfet to fix the power supply, then I'll check a little more on the capacitor.

Probably a Fairchild fan2502s26x voltage regulator.  Obsolete.  Datasheet here:
http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/51162/FAIRCHILD/FAN2502S26X.html

Ceramic is fine.  2.2uF or greater.

Relevant section:
Input Capacitor
An input capacitor of 2.2?F (nominal value) or greater,
connected between the Input pin and Ground, located in
close proximity to the device, will improve transient
response and noise rejection. Higher values will offer superior
input ripple rejection and transient response. An input
capacitor is recommended when the input source, either a
battery or a regulated AC voltage, is located far from the
device. Any good quality ceramic, tantalum, or metal film
capacitor will give acceptable performance, however tantalum
capacitors with a surge current rating appropriate to the
application must be selected to avoid catastrophic failure.

I'll stick with 10u tantal with tantal with 0.1u on top you can't miss ever. If big load put bigger, I use 47 or 100 in those cases avoiding things like reset

OK... so I am a beginner at electronics repair and have been trying to fix this Slingbox 350 just for the satisfaction.

I had no power. I found mosfet Q11 was dead. I replaced it and have dim power lights and about 4.5 volts coming out of it.

A schematic would be helpful as I cannot follow the traces as this is a multiple layer board. On the surface, the trace leaving appears to go nowhere significant but if I jump over the mosfet and increase  the voltage, the unit powers up and seems to function.

Would anyone have a schematic for this unit or advice on where to look? I was trying to follow traces, but after I realized there are traces I can't see, I'm at a loss.

The SOT-23 I removed was marked 1GM. What I ordered was marked 1G/.

I believe they are both MMBTA06.

If I bypass all of the power circuit and put a minimum of 4.3v to the buck converter chip. the unit powers up.

I have 4.4v coming out of the MMBTA06, which puzzled me. I put the scope on it and it is a saw wave from 4.8v to 4.1v. The 12.2v feeding the MMBTA06 does not have this wave. The MMBTA06 is simply controlled by a resistor between B & E

To verify that it wasn't the power supply, I put 12.2v from the bench supply and had the same exact coming out of the MMBTA06.

After leaving the MMBTA06 it goes through a couple ferrite beads and has a couple of electrolytic capacitors to ground. These appear and test fine.

I bought 10 of the MMBTA06 and have put a couple in with the same result. What could be causing the wave?
