SMD IC Replacement advice
« on: October 23, 2022, 05:21:39 am »
Greetings,

I am looking for some guidance with replacing a IC chip that appears to be faulty.  Specifically, it is TPS53515 chip and its size is smaller than anything I have worked on in the past.  My thoughts are to remove the larger inductor first for better access but I was concerned about the adjacent caps and resistors flying away.  For replacement, I was planning to use solder paste T5 at low air flow to mount replacement chip.

Any thought or suggestions on this?

Thanks!

I would suggest to find a junk board and practice.

I personally would be worried more about removing that inductor than replacing the IC. Keep it on the board. Other components should not fly either if you do it right, so again, practice first on a board you don't care about.
