Soldering lamp stopped working
« on: April 10, 2021, 10:38:40 am »
My soldering lamp went off yesterday. I checked the fuse and some of the components on the pcb but seem ok. Checked the LEDs and one is shorted and another is open. Does anyone know what type of LEDs I should replace them with?

Thanks

Looks like fairly standard 3 or 5mm LEDs (maybe low profile).
Or to see if it works, replace the dead LEDs with 150 ohm resistors.

Thanks that got it working with 150 Ohm resistors. Will order some suitable LEDs.

Those are neither.

They’re what the Chinese vendors (the only place I’ve ever seen them) call “straw hat” LEDs, specifically the 4.8mm/5mm variant with the “small core” or “small cup”. (You can also get “large core” ones with a much larger phosphor center.) They have a much wider beam angle than regular 5mm LEDs. They’re also a fair bit shorter.

Thanks for the information. I have found some straw hat ones online.
