Sony KD-55X7000E - Insect Infestation Inside LCD Panel?

One of my 2 KD-55X7000 TVs has developed a dark patch on the screen.

Sony tell me this is caused by an insect infestation and therefore not covered by warranty.

Is this correct? Are the LCD panels not sealed?

The lcd panels aren't totally sealed, they are multi layered components,  Ie backlight, light diffuser etc ...

My solution woud be when the tv is dismantled, it will be a big task, you have to separate the front lcd glass, or slightly lift it...

Try a can of compressed air, not air from a compressor (you may have oil residues in it)  to see if you can move it    but the warranty will be void unless you do it cleanly, no markings no scuffs  etc...

I have this issue with a Dell monitor where some ant crawled in and died.
Very difficult to remove, I dismantled it and used compressed air etc. but did not dare to remove the plates from each other.

That's more work and risk than I want to go to unless the only other option is to buy another TV. I think I'll just live with it for the moment.

I'm just surprised that there are gaps for insects to get in.
