Supplier of 90 Degree PC Pins?
« on: April 25, 2020, 04:41:57 am »
Would anyone happen to know a supplier who sells 90 degree PC pins?

The diameter of the pins would be ~.033" or .85mm.

I want to use them for small SMD adapter boards.

The pin end combinations can be press/solder or solder/solder.

Thank you!

Not square headers?  These for example,

(I don't think any of the family are stocked, but Samtec does have short lead times.  May be other sources too.)

In emergency, I've chomped out the pins from a D type plug.
Depends on how many you need.

Thanks for the help!

These little boards were sent to me and they need to attach to a PC board in a perpendicular fashion. I can fit a .030" wire through the holes with slight room to spare:

I imagine in the future I may start ordering small boards to be made for projects. Do PC board makers have an option where they can install pins like this?

Anyway, here is another style I found used in a Tektronix power supply:

Eliocor, thank you!

Now under Header, specialty pin I found these. the pins are spaced .1" apart too, which matches the spacing on the small board:

Are these available in round pins on both sides? Or square on one end and round on the other?

On a side note, finding things in electronics parts is first to know what the heck they're called  :)

I measured the small PC board, I could probably squeeze a .040" wire through it. On the main PC board they are to solder to, the pins would need to be around .025 to .033" in diameter.

I like the stability of the plastic bar, plus the way you can just cut to length what you need. The plastic bar would probably absorb some short-term heat so soldering doesn't become a mess. I come to find out that the open-end is a "solder cup" to attach wires to. Interesting stuff!

These type of round pin headers are usually called machined, machine, turned or just round pin headers.  90 degree ones are not common however.

Standard (square pin) 90 degree pcb headers are common as muck.  0.1" is 2.54mm which is the most common pitch for headers of both types.

Sleemanj, Way to go!

Anyone who is making custom adapter boards for retrofitting old parts in older equipment using newer SMD parts needs these, especially if the boards need to mount perpendicular.

I'll buy 50 of the 1000 :)
