Swapping LCD Panel EEPROM
« on: August 14, 2023, 12:52:54 pm »
Hi, I have two LCD panels (One cracked screen, One corrupt EEPROM). If these panels share the same specs (32", 720P, RGB Vert. Stripe, 1366X768, 60Hz, LVDS [1 ch, 8-bit] , 12V), can their EEPROMs be swapped?

Probably will work but not necessarily. Would be better to find original EEPROM dump.

Hi amyk, the EEPROM on the LCD board. I would need to do some further disassembly to get the EEPROM part number. Would that help?

Hi wraper, Unfortunately I don't have a EEPROM programmer
How do you know it's corrupted? Programming I2C EEPROM is not hard. If you have Raspberry pi or Arduino for example.

All of the LCD board voltages are correct and it displays a bright white screen. The original mainboard suffered a processor failure and a replacement mainboard did not correct it. I found some Youtube videos that showed a corrupted EEPROM was the cause. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any EEPROM programming hardware.

I thought that EDID EEPROMs were on the mainboard rather than the panel. :-?

Anyway, you can find the EDID for your monitor(s), past and present, in your Windows registry.

Years ago there was a tool called PowerStrip which enabled EDID to reprogrammed via Windows. Perhaps there is a similar tool today?

https://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

To confirm the integrity of the EDID, add all the bytes. The sum should be 0.

As far as I know TV panels don't have any eeprom...?
What whas the fault in the board with "processor failure"? And what was the problem with the other one your're taking the new panel from?
If a new board didn't fix it, perhabs there's another board?  T-CON? Though I've only seen these in larger models, mostly in 50" and up.
The board does usually have an eeprom for EDID and might have another for the tv settings, but sometimes it uses the flash memory.
Maybe you need to restore a firmware backup from internet. What's the TV model?

Hi fzabkar, Sorry but this is a TV LCD panel.

If it has a HDMI input, then there may be an EDID EEPROM behind it. If that's the case, then a PC should be able to read the EDID, even if the monitor/TV is powered down.

Anyway, are you referring to an EEPROM on a T-CON board? If so, then I would think that it would contain unique calibration data.

Can you give us the part numbers and model numbers of the panel and the TV? Perhaps one of us can find a service manual.

You say that you don't have an EEPROM reader. If the EEPROM is an I2C type (eg 24Cxx), and if its capacity is 1Kbit or less, you could wire up a simple jig to connect it to a PC via a DB-15 VGA port. Then Windows will read the data into its registry. You would need to be aware of the Vcc, though.

FWIW, a HV320WHB-N85 has a 32Kbit EEPROM (BL24C32A).

Just FYI, here is a 32Kbit EEPROM dump from a HV236WHB-N00 panel:
