t12 soldering station crashes during boost

Hello.

I recently bought a Chinese "KSGER" soldering station (the one that is compatible with Hakko tips). When I try to use the 'boost' function, the screen crashes and the unit restarts itself. Does anybody have a similar issue? Also, the tilt sensor in the handle senses when I pick up the tip, but not when I put it down.

edit: Hardware version 2.0, Software version 2.09. I also realizes it only wakes up, then times out.

stick a voltmeter between the psu and controller and see if there is a volt-drop in boost.
i'v never heard of "boost", but i wonder if the psu is underrated?

The "boost" function is merely raising the temperature of the tip by 50c for a few minutes.

The sensor only detects vibration, when it cannot detect it, ie because you have put it down or holding it still for a while it switch into standby mode. This will reduce the temperature to a low setting and sleep timer is started. If no further vibration is detected in the timeout period it will switch off.

Do I take it that this is a new purchase and not working or has it been and now stopped working? If its the former contact the seller for replacement, if the latter, buy a new controller and fit it.

The plot thickens. The crashing problem stopped working after I took it apart to inspect it  Now to fix the minor temperature overshoot and the earthing issue. On another note, when stabalizing to a temperature, a relay clicks and an led on the board labeled "R7" flashes.

Hmm, I can't help you with that one, the 2 T12 systems I have are both by Quicko from Aliexpress and have a 4 pin plug & socket for the interface between iron and station. The overshoot you mention, is that on the digital display or have you measured the actual iron tip? Please post a photo of your station here so we can identify it.

If the overshoot is on the display, then this will eventually settle down on its own as the tip beds in, if you measured the iron tip and found it was higher than the display, then there is a adjustment on the controller and is done via one of its menus and the rotary encoder.

My station with same model and firmware has the same crashing on boost issue.  I'm wondering what tip type you have it set to.  Mine came with K and ILS tips and setting the station to either tip profile and then trying boost just crashes it.  I'm wondering if it has something to do with the tip profile used but not near my station to test.  Boost actually worked at one time but I don't remember if I had set the station to use the right tip profile for what was inserted.

I think that a soldering station kit would probably be a better value, especially if it comes with a fire extinguisher.

When I built my second station, I used one of the OLED controllers from Bangood, I think it was a KSGER one and after using it for a while I noticed that the K type tip was actually glowing cherry red, so I promptly pulled that out and replaced it with another via AliExpress which was made by Quicko, the same as my first T12 station and since then I have had zero problems with either of my stations, very pleased with them.

Looks like element went short and the weakest bit of the circuit was then the MOSFET
