Title: Tabor Electronics 8553 Arb signal gen repair
Post by: Romain on October 18, 2021, 08:07:39 am
Hi, I have this arb signal generator that had a rough ride.
When powering it on, it made cracking noises and released the magic smoke. I suspect the mains caps and should have checked them first, but didn't have the time...

My question is: is it worth fixing, or just dump it...
(same question for the scope in another thread)

Tks

If there was litterally smoke, after not using it for an extended time there is a chance this would be input filtering caps. Such a failure is usually relatively easy to repair though the unit may stays smelly for quite some time and really to remore the last residue can be hard. It is at least worth a try and look.

Hello Romain,
do you still have the generator and did you succeed with the repair?
I recently bought one as well.
With 50MHz bandwidth, it's a rather capable unit.
Unfortunately I have not been able to find any kind of documentation for the unit.
Even Tabor Electronics itself is not able to provide anything.
