Title: takeda riken counter trying to find an ic
Post by: m3vuv on September 30, 2019, 08:17:21 am
Hi all ive this freq counter takeda riken model TR 5823 0-1.3ghz,it has several inputs,a/b/c a is 10 hz to 120Mhz,b is 1Mhz to 50Mhz and c is 100Mhz to 1.3 Ghz,it wont count on input c!,the others are fine, from what i can tell ic 2 of the input section  section on c is dead,ie the signal arrives at the input, all voltages are ok and the attenuator works but there is nothing on the output going to r65 or pin 12 of ic 3,would anyone know of where to get a replacement ic,or a work around, from what i can tell its an amp, pics and scematic attached, ive tried google but no joy, cheers Paul m3vuv.

You need to read service manuals more carefully..
It says in manual it is SP8786B, a Plessey prescaler divider chip. That is an old chip and company doesn't exist for many years. Datasheet is available on Internet.
You will have to find either and old one NOS or used that works, or find a way to replace it with something else...

He is talking about IC3 isn't he...? I can't really tell, because his SINGLE sentence post is kinda confusing...

Ah ok, seems that my decoding worked better this morning, I read 'IC2'.

Googled high and low but could not find anything about this IC, let alone a replacement. I think your only option is to be creative with parts you can get.
IC6 seems to be part of the noise suppression circuit so that could probably be skipped.

Problem is that this part is amplifier, and signal shaper with ECL compatible output to go into ECL input of prescaler.
If you want to replace it, transplanting something similar from some other counter might work.
But this input hybrid also is connected to some kind of squelch circuit and also automatic filter...

So you would need 1+ GHz preamp, ECL schmitt trigger for output, and a signal detector for squelch function for a replacement circuit.....

Nice learning project, but not really economical repair. It would be easier to just get a parts mule or other counter..

This is a more recent version of the card (always 1.3GHz), I hope it is of some help.

And that one is made from of the shelf parts. RF relay, discrete atten. 12080 On semi prescaler.

In my card the amplifier function is performed by U01, a sot-23-6 labeled CIE on top, which I could not identify.
