tantalim capacitor reference help.
« on: May 23, 2017, 11:43:49 am »
I folks, I need some help.

Some one knows how to read this capacitor tantalium reference?

This board is from a Apple, 820-3437 A1466 MacBook pro. NE AV7.

It´s aprox 64uF, greater than 8V, 3mm x 3.7 mm.

Thanks

You're sure they are tantalum capacitors and not Transient Voltage Suppressors ?
It looks weird so many close together. They lack the codes that you expect on a capacitor like voltage and capacitance.
I would desolder one and measure it, if it is a capacitance.

They are next to FETs and coils. For sure they are caps.
Apple makes it hard to identify. They have the quantities to order the stuff with custom markings.
NE could mean 2014 november

Hi, it measures about 64 uF in a waynkerr bridge. One of them, one of one grup o heigh near CPU is shorted. Desolded and laptop is working again, but I want to know wich type is for replacement.

Ok I stand corrected then it are caps.
I am no expert and if someone has the right information use it.
If you get no information and you say the capacitance is expected 68uF what is from keeping you to solder in a Tantalum polymer cap with high voltage and measure the voltage across the cap when laptop is running?
Then take a tantalum spec at around double the measured voltage to be safe and use that?

If i look at tantalum polymer caps 68uF 16V from Kemet or Panasonic then they are way bigger (7mm)

Found something for you! Take a look at the datasheet of the Vishay T55 series, the codes match for 10V 68uF maybe a different serie but that will be sorted out soon , :)

You can download the schematic from here: http://www.apple-schematic.se/board/820-3437/

Find a big IC somewhere near those capacitors, search for it in the datasheet then look around to find those capacitors ... as Apple doesn't print some code like C124 near those parts.
Or figure out which section those capacitors belong to, and then look in the schematic.

The series looks correct (N) but the code should have been W7 not V7 and the casing is 7.3mm not 3.7 mm long so it is a puzzle.

old topic but anyway, it's a 62µF 11V on the schematic. there are some on aliexpress.
