Why is this sad? It's always been this way, I don't see what the problem is. Before you use a part, read the datasheet, always.

SMD can be a minefield .. markings, part numbering, packages sizes between manufacturers .. caps and leds definitely ... I always keep manufacturers charts handy, and if I come across a new part, I always download and print a description sheet FIRST !! ... and 1 in 100 times, even that can go wrong .. welcome to SMD :-)

Where? It just states the polarity marking is opposite for solid, to wet electrolytic capacitors. No mention is made of the reason.

You want some fun, I have some old solid tantalum capacitors where the polarity is marked by the lead plating. gold and silver leads at each end, and I still have not got a definite datasheet for them either.

Think you've got problems.

Sometimes the same manufacture will use dot=cathode for one color of led and dot=anode for another color led within the same product range.
