Title: Tektronix 5006 DC power
Post by: tonyc on July 14, 2016, 09:29:53 pm
My 5006 stopped working a couple of weeks ago. When I turn the power switch on I still hear the beep sound but no DC power come out of the slots. I know the AC power is good because the DMM module uses AC power and still works.  Does anybody know what are the usual culprits for such problem?

In the TM5006, the DC power is provided by a switching power supply while the AC comes from a line transformer.  Obviously there is a problem with the switching power supply; the primary suspect is the aluminum electrolytic capacitors which are probably worn out with age.

There is no beeper so I assume the beep is coming from the switching power supply when it tries to start.
