TEKTRONIX DM5010 and FG5010 Switches Sticking
« on: October 14, 2023, 02:14:56 pm »
Hi all,

I have a DM5010 and FG5010 which have momentary pushbuttons that are sticking. Is there a recommended cleaning procedure to resolve this issue? Is this a known  common problem with these modules?

Thank you.

not common as the racal dana ones,  but over time,  since they are old systems,

the switch components inside may degrade, i have an dm5120  who began to exhibit the same symptoms

and finding substiutes .... some have leds inside them in my case

you have to measure their heights and sizes ... and try to find similars ones

Indeed. However is there a cleaning solvent and/or lubricant procedure that has been shown to resolve this issue?

deoxit can do wonder for oxidized contacts

but if the mechanical spring action is foam based or plastic dome / metal dome ....  degradation / deformation over time can happen

lubricant : i would not try to use them,    you have to dry clean all contacts to be sure, deoxit them, let them dry, or use compressed air to move everything out and do some tests

petroleum based lubricant could do more damaged than good, you have to use dedicated ones for switchs ??

In my AFG5101 IIRC I carefully removed the cap and cleaned the sticky ones with isopropyl alcohol them clicked the top back on.

Was a while ago though, so I can't remember the details beyond that unfortunately.
Where does all this test equipment keep coming from?!?

Was it a disassembly of the front panel from the main chasis or were you able to remove the caps with the front panel attached? Thank you.

It wasn't too hard to remove the front panel. A few screws on the top and bottom and the whole front assembly came away, then unplug a few cables and then remove the screws holding the PCB in place and it came apart.
