Tektronix option code Generation

Does any body know how Tek used to generate these codes I believe they were used on various Tek test equipment. Tektronix have no interest and no record of how it was done but is there any body who used to work for Tektronix who would be able the shed some light on the process Who knows it may be possible to start generating some and rescue some of the fantastic kit like the VM700 s
