Tektronix TDS5054b-NV Wont Post
« on: May 27, 2021, 11:14:24 pm »
The other day I got a hand me down Tektronix TDS5054b-NV that seems to be brain dead.

It doesn't post at all. I diagnosed it to have a bad power supply. the PSU only gave 11v on the 12v rail and the -12 rail was only -9. Replaced the PSU and now the rails are good but still no post.

I am trying to diagnose if its the mother board or the powerPC PCI board that is the issue. I know the motherboard is an off the shelf intel board but does it have a custom BIOS that turns the VGA port off on it? I tried to pulling the motherboard out and just hooking it up to a monitor and I get nothing on the vga out. If I take the ram off the MOBO and try to boot it does start beeping. I get fan spin either way. Does anyone know if it has a some custom BIOS that doesn't do a normal post screen or something?

Anyone ever run into something like this before what was wrong with yours? I can post photos if needed but I can't think of any useful photos to post. I would really like to get this thing working It would be an upgrade from my HP 54600B

With the MB out of the scope, it should POST normally with VGA out. Any bulging caps?

found the issue. The original power supply was the original issue. When I took the whole thing apart I took the ram out to clean out the years of dust. I managed to put it back in wrong slot causing the no post with the new PSU. once I swapped it back the scope is working now!

Now to add some extra ram. one of my buddies is sending me some.
So with the corsair power supply does that now make it a gaming oscilloscope? :-//
