Error updating Rigol DS1054Z
« on: September 05, 2020, 07:23:40 pm »
Please help with the restoration of Rigol DS1054Z. In the oscillograph there was firmware 00.04.04.04.03, mixed up the update file, instead of DS1000Z downloaded DS1000Z-E versions of 00.06.02.00 01 from here https://www.rigolna.com/firmware/. The set received an update, rebooted and as a result works, but there are no two channels, channels 1 and 2 work. Channels 3 and 4 are not enabled. As I realized - poured firmware for DS1202Z-E. Tried to upgrade with the 00.04.04.04.03 version, but the set does not see the update... Help restore the DS1054Z, please.

Rigol broke your scope, ask them to repair it

Have you got a 200MHz oscilloscope? DS1202Z-E - two-channel at 200MHz.

exactly the same issue here with my DS1074Z, Rigol upgrade files names is a really confusing and bullshit.

There is apparently no security to flash firmware if confused about the model.

My model name is now declared to a DS1204Z, :o :o
which definitely causes the error when i reflash to revert to the original firmware ..?
maybe, does anyone know how to change the model name of the instrument via a scpi command to allow to reflash to an old fw version?

did you manage to get out of this problem? and if so, how did you do?
thanks in advance

most firmware upgrade cannot be reversed..  :(  I have a router I accidentally installed a australian firmware and now cannot be reversed.  good for aus and canada..  it's close, might be able to get the wi-fi to work. been sitting on bench for a few yrs..   I would call manf and see if somehow u can reverse it.. most likely not . spent many hours with manf no solution. good luck.

Someone else on the forum also recently installed the wrong firmware.  I can't find his post.  However, he basically fixed it by modifying the latest gel file with a different version and installed it.

As far as I know, you can not revert to an earlier version with the newer bootloader.

Hi Sebastos,

I found the message I think will help you. I happened to be in that thread at the time.

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/msg3220962/#msg3220962

If you loaded the DS1000Z with the Z-E version and cannot get back to the correct firmware, then you should rename the correct DS1000Z firmware file to be DS1000Z-E.GEL and try again.

Good luck

thanks for your reply but unfortunately both fw have the same name ... :( :( :o

my actual wrong firmware installed and downloaded from here: https://int.rigol.com/En/Index/listView/catid/28/tp/6/cat/7/xl/40
is "DS1000ZUpdate.GEL" in fact this is the v00.06.01.00.00 for DS1202Z-E

the last and good one in date for my DS1074Z is the v00.04.04.04.03 from https://beyondmeasure.rigoltech.com/acton/ct/1579/p-00ac/Bct/-/-/ct16_0/1/d?sid=TV2%3AQ2jKaGpUj
have the same name: "DS1000ZUpdate.GEL". it's same name but an message error appear when i try to reflash it.

for information in my system menu, the model name is actually declared like a DS1204Z with v6.01 software.. |O |O

any other tips from users to try to recover my 4 channels..?  :(

thanks

edit and solved procedure:

after continue the upgrade to V6.02 (can't be do over v6.01) and downloaded from https://beyondmeasure.rigoltech.com/acton/ct/1579/p-00ac/Bct/-/-/ct67_0/1/d?sid=TV2%3AQ2jKaGpUj

1- i 've renamed the 10h bit with a hex editor to change the version number to 00.06.02.00.01 in my orginal GEL File (v00_04_04_04_03)
2- after i've renamed the original DS1000ZUpdate.GEL (V00_04_04_04_03) file (file that i join under) to DS1000Z-EUpdate.GEL and i recover all my 4 channels with a good fw version  :o 8) :P :-X
3- make a self cal after 30min of warmup

thanks to ALexalr and KK1L for this big help link
I changed the entry 00.04.04.04.03 to 00.06.02.00.01, that is, to the one that was already in the memory of the oscillograph, but he again did not accept it. I had to change the name of the firmware from DS1000ZUpdate.GEL to DS1000Z-EUpdate.GEL, only after that the oscillograph adopted the update. All 4 channels are fully operational.

Did you do these changes in a stock FW or in my FW?

here under the final fw .GEL modified (to decompress before upgrade)

I wonder if only changing the name of the stock 00.04.04.04.03 firmware to DS1000Z-EUpdate.GEL would have kept the version at the right level. I am glad you are back in the game again!!
