TDS 3052
« on: January 27, 2021, 12:57:22 pm »
I intend to buy this Tektronics TDS 3052 since it is being sold at a very attractive price point. However there are some issues with the Display as seen in the attached picture. I know, I need to change the Polarizer for sure. Other than that, I can see some coloured vertical lines on the screen. I am more worried about those. Any suggestions from previous experiences dealing with repairing to remove these lines.
Regards

Any idea what caused that failure? It looks strange. Hopefully not a damage caused by water! For such a case you are just seeing the top of the iceberg.

Some time ago I repaired such a model, but the failure was 'just' on the rather simple power supply and battery charge board.

On youtube you'll find a video with the replacement of the display. The video shows also the part number of the display if you have to order it.

@Kibabalu, Thank you for the reply. I am yet to buy this scope from the seller neither does the seller know as to how this scope became defective. It would be just a gamble, if I have to buy this scope. I was trying to see the odds of making it work again !!!

Wow, that looks like a project for someone who repairs these every day. That unit looks broken and abused. Cheap isn't cheap if the parts to repair it can't be found and the damage is extensive. I would only buy that scope if it was dirt cheap and I could rob parts from it to fix a scope showing much less abuse.

@CaptDon, I tend to agree with you. I was thinking, if it just involved a kind of Polarizer replacement and perhaps a clean-up of the display or other connector contacts as suggested by some other troubleshooters of LCD display panels. Thanks, for your suggestion. I think, I will pass this one !!  ;) Regards.

You better be.

Many times a frozen stuff leave sort of a border a bit bigger than a melted area.
I guess salt do something similar when partially dryed area is smaller.

Anyway, if that is moisture you can guarantee that screen is not the only affected place.

Is the power button surroundings different than other places?
If so then face is cleaned and you don't know what kind of a monsoon it has experienced.
