Title: FIXED: Toshiba C50-B, LA-B301P (no power)
Post by: Inflex on February 02, 2017, 12:10:47 pm
This was going to be a "Please help" post but I ended up repairing it after slapping myself around and telling myself I didn't NEEEEEED to have a boardview ( as much as it makes life a bit easier ).

Laptop came in with "no power", which in the past I've found to mean anything from legitimately no power, through to "boots to a black windows screen".

Thankfully there was a schematic for this one, alas, as mentioned, no boardview ( you have to realise how much that hurts me, I want to use my software :) ).

Needless to say, after farting around for an hour or so I found the culprit, fractured (shorted) decoupling cap on the main net feeding the battery charge circuit, not the first time I've encountered this failure, not just on this laptop.

Video of the process is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY_lSnBPJNI (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY_lSnBPJNI)

Photos of the culprit attached.
