Title: Trimmer screwdrivers that actually fit...
Post by: rabidelephant on April 19, 2023, 03:20:43 pm
Hello!

I've acquired a bunch of trimmer screwdrivers over the years but none are fitting the trimmers I have on a new design and I've got tons of trimming to make on many units.  I need the trimmer to have the cylindrical ring surrounding the flat head, as most do, but something that fits the adjustor properly so I'm not aimlessly spinning, wiggling or having to look to line it up.  I have the Bourns H-90, which they say fits their 1/4" trimmers and these have the same diameter adjustor as on the BI part I use, but it still doesn't seem to be fast in engaging.  I think the inner diameter of the 'ring' is too big.  I'd not care so much but I really have many 1000s of adjustments to make and would like to get a nice tool for the job.

Does anybody know of a trimmer screwdriver that will fit these 1/4" trimmers?  https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/414/TTRB_S_A0009734243_1-2565577.pdf (https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/414/TTRB_S_A0009734243_1-2565577.pdf)

I've took an iron nail (for wood planks) and filed its tip.  A wine cork, or an empty ballpen, or toothpaste caps can make an isolated handle.  Have a few made entirely from hard plastic, no iron, good for tuning ferrite coils .

Yea, making one is probably my only bet, it seems.  The issue with the drivers I am having is they don't really make the ID of the cylindrical centering ring close enough to the OD of the adjustor and so mating is finicky.

Take a screwdriver that fits but is slightly larger than the screw. Put some heat-shrink around the round part above the blade. A centimeter is long enough, the idea is that after it shrunk you can push it down over the blade so that it forms the guide you want.
