Trio TS-120s Transceiver help needed please!
« on: May 05, 2020, 10:56:13 am »
Hello,
My Trio TS-120s won't receive. Here's what I've checked so far.
Carrier oscillator is working.
Display is reading normal.
Finger test on the volume pot shows the audio amp is working.
500KHz is present.
10MHz is present.
There is an output on the rf pcb (RIF).
However,
The radio is dead, no white noise (unless I pull the J29 connector on the IF board, then there is noise).
The "s" meter does not move.
I've checked the band switch and wafers, they're ok.
I've tried all bands, nothing.
The radio is not in transmit condition.

I'm at a loss now, from my tests, the radio should be receiving!

One thing to add; if I go to transmit with no microphone connected the radio puts full power out as if it's on CW with the key down. I don't know if this may be significant.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to scrap the radio for parts.
Very 73,
Chris, G0VOE.
