Hello all,

I got a, new to me, Tripp Lite isolation transformer with a busted front power switch. Still have not taken it apart but it seems it's a common occurrence and I would appreciate if somebody knew of a good replacement part that would work. So I can order and have ready to replace.

I have not contacted Tripp Lite yet, but it would be quicker to buy in online if something is available.

It's a heavy beast (58 lb) and will take apart over the weekend. Web picture.

Thanks, and have a good weekend.

If it is common for that switch to break then slap a totally different thing on it.
How often will you use that switch? If really frequent and room permits then use a contactor or inductive load compatible relais with a big emergency stop mushroom button.
When it fits stop using the hammer

If a standard house voltage breaker would somehow fit, consider that.
If it would fit, then you have a decent breaker in addition to a switch.
Don't know it it would fit
I have some equipment with this feature

Hello all,

Sorry for the delay. I found the part manufacturer and it is Mechanical Products. I have never seen a product from them. Original part is from the series 24 of circuit breaker switches. Part # 2421-300-159-1000.

After talking to them it is not a standard part that is stocked. They suggested several options that are in stock via a reseller. These are expensive units, and I am currently working on fixing the damaged part. The plastic hinge is broken inside, and I believe I can repair it. The outside cosmetics will look awful but will potentially work properly. It may live in a place nobody will look at so not too bad.

Will post more info if successful.

You've done good detective work, almost there. It's a combo switch and 10A circuit breaker, which can be hard to find and are expensive.
Mechanical Products Series 24 2-pole,  thermal CB, snap in, panel cutout 0.85"x1.75", rocker with guard, no light, 10.0A.  You could get a 2421-400-159-1000 which has both splash and actuator guard and rip off the splash guard.

TE W33 Series is very close and the datasheet says it fits the opening. But start at $110 ouch.
Or you can split it up, put in an ordinary rocker switch and add a circuit breaker. You can even add a light.
I use the Potter & Brumfield/Tyco/TE W58 Series (thermal) for transformer protection, they are lower cost. Then you just need a big honker rocker switch.

edit: "... fit into an industry standard cutout of 1.734” x .867” [44.0mm x 22.0mm]. " Carling Technologies has the L21 Series (although like Littelfuse, many are rated for cars and trucks 12/24VDC only).

The sort of breakers used in boats ought to work if you don't mind adapting the fit.

You could browse Digikey and see if they have something in a similar style that is not the unnecessary marine grade.

Hello all,

I was fortunate enough that all the crumbles of the switch remained inside the unit. With a lot of patience and a bit of luck, I was able to use superglue for the plastic hinge that broke, and after quite a while found the use of a little copper strip that acted as a spring to reset the trip mechanism. Works well. I don't expect it to be toggled too often therefore it should survive.

A generous amount of epoxy completed the repair job holding the case together, as the plastic tabs broke completely during the damage.

Now its assembled and will be pressed to service soon.

Although I did find replacement switches from the same brand the cost is minimum $50.00 per order and that defeated the idea of a cheap repair.

I will consider this situation solved. Did not take pictures unfortunately.
