trying to source replacement fuse

Hi!

I have a 5x20mm 5A 500V fuse that I need to replace. Is the 500V listed on the fuse referencing AC or DC voltage? In looking through the Littlefuse catalog the highest I could find in this form factor is 500VAC. The DC is usually listed around 400V.

What is the fuse for?

The fuse goes in an electronic ballast for a stage light. My understanding is that it is a DC voltage moving through the ballast to the igniter.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out the DC voltage rating for this fuse.

As this fuse most likely is in the AC input to the electronic ballast use a 500VAC fuse. The current in this fuse will be AC from the power line, though the electronic ballast might have a high voltage DC bus inside, the lamp itself will be run on high frequency AC to keep the electrodes wearing unevenly. This will not apply to a Xenon arc lamp, which does use DC as the one electrode is much larger to handle the heating, but even there the fuse will be in the incoming AC side in any case.
