TTi PL303QMD-P PSU displaying "Fail 4"
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:40:03 am »
The PSU powers up just fine, will even output voltage for a short time, then will cut the output, freeze up, and just display "FAIL 4" on both channels. I can't seem to find any info on this failure, even the guy I spoke to at TTi didn't seem to know (granted, I believe he was more of a sales rep than a repair engineer).

Anyone got any insight into this one? This is the second PSU I've had with this fault.

Might be worth re-flashing the firmware to eliminate that - firmware on TTi site.
Could it be related to the network interface? I say that because normally a short time after power on (30 secs?) LAN ERR will flash up if there is no network connection.
Is the delay you see (until FAIL 4) the same as the delay to the usual LAN ERR message?

Thanks for the input, but reflashing the firmware was the first thing I tried, to no avail  :-//

But yes, the time between power up and the failure is pretty reminiscent of a LAN timeout, so maybe you're on to something! I shall investigate

My mistake, I was thinking of the other PSU I'm working on! This one refuses to flash the firmware, the firmware flasher just freezes up. And yes, I did remember to put it in firware update mode (holding LAN reset on power up). But also worth noting that this one isn't detected at all by NI-MAX via usb (windows doesn't see it either for that matter), or LXI Discovery Browser by LAN connection.

So is the interface board dead then? If so, any recommendations for an attempted repair?
