Sorensen / Xantrex XHR 600-1.7 repair
« on: November 05, 2017, 10:07:44 pm »

So I have a Sorensen / Xantrex 600V power supply that just blinks it's display LEDs at me when it gets powered up. Seems like it might be the low voltage switching supply not starting up correctly, but I've heard these are prone to failing in this manner due to 'current sense resistor' being burned out.

Of course, the schematics are unobtainium.

Before I go poking about in the guys of a 600VDC supply, I thought I might ask if anyone has any experience fixing them.

Thanks!
Bob

Agree with above.  This can also happen when there is a problem with the self powering secondary winding that powers the control inverter.  The initial power up of the inverter chip is through a high ohm resistor that charges a cap. This can not supply enough power to keep it running. That is when the secondary winding supplies power.  If that doesn't happen, it just keeps cycling on and off.
