Tv led replacement
« on: March 25, 2021, 12:55:25 pm »
Hi all!!! I’m in the process to fix an led tv (LG) that the led screen “blinks” on and off so later today I’ll check with an led tester for tv to see what is the problem. If it’s an led strip can I just buy one or the whole set of strips? I’ve seen some videos that some changes just the led that isn’t working so how do you know what led to get to replace the one that isn’t working?

THANKS!!!

Serge

IMHO?

just being too cheap I would change a single led...

Chances are that if one led has failed others may fail soon as well

The re-work to open again the panel just is not worthy..

If you have a LED STRIP TESTER giving positive fault to a specific
LED STRIP...

I always change the whole LED STRIP w/a brand new one...

safer choice (and easiest)

Ok changing a strip how do you know what you’re looking for that will work with your tv? Where can I find this on the inet? Do I just type the tv model # and go from there? Newbe here doing tv repair. Thanks for any info.

If the screen blinks with proper brightness then this is not the LED string and you should look elsewhere, perhaps the power supply.

Well I know that it blinks on and off but when you look at the screen the brightness is kinda dim BUT I do see the LG logo and there after the LG "square" logo but it isn't bright at all. I did a visual inspection on the PS and I see no cap bulge or leaks, no transistors burnt or smell. So I will do the led tv test tool (GJ3C) and see what's going on. But like I said how can one find the proper part(s) for this? Do I need to search with the TV model # for the srtip and if I just want to change a burnt led light, there a a gazillion LEDs on DigiKey witch one to choose from???

THANKS!!!

Yes by reference mostly found on vendor sites...

several specialized and even tweaks available. Example:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000757943777.html

TKDMR also sells a good LED strip tester..

on the other hand replacing a  single LED for newcomers
may be hard because you may melt the strip easily.

Even for the same TV, strips come in types and you need to replace with the right type.

If you want to replace a single LED, you need to know what type of LEDs the TV has and replace with the same. You may find
the information printed on the LED strip

In those TVs you should change all of the LED strips. And increase resistance of current sense resistor in LED driver by about 25% to avoid further failures. If you look on those LEDs with magnification, you will notice that yellow compound is cracked on all of them.

This is what the LEDs from a Warehouse branded Veon TV look like after two years of home use - I have to laugh at their "Green, Sustainable, and saving the planet" angle they're using to push this kind of product into landfills here - referring to their current television commercial.

Repair is even more difficult than a brand name TV as the white reflector material is glued in and not removable, making changing the strips impossible without cutting the reflector or tearing it out and stitching it back together with clear tape.

Imagine what a TV LCD panel would look like when backlit by a UVA germicidal tube if you want an idea of the symptom. No reds and greens, and an abundance of blue.
