Unkonwn component in smart battery controller
« on: May 08, 2018, 01:55:10 am »
Anyone knows what is this component marked in the image? This is an ACER notebook battery controller. If they somehow follow the main chip's reference design (ti bq20z95), it should be an "electrically blowable fuse" (a fuse with an "fuse" control line). The 2 chips underneath are FETs.

I bit the bullet and took it out of the board. Underneath it says

SEFUSE
D6T34A

but no results at all turn up on google. I think I'll just bypass it and have my PC battery back since the cells are good and the controller responds on the SMBus...

Pfuuuuu, found it...

https://www.schott.com/epackaging/english/cutoff/sh_type/d6.html

D6 Type
Series: D6T, D6X, D6WX
The D6-type uses a ceramic material for the body (cap and base) and
integrates a resistor as a heater inside the thermal cutoff. Hence, the D6-type
can be activated either when the abnormal temperature increase is caused by
the external environment, or when it is a result of the heat generated by the
electrical circuit within the device. This provides a second protection for the
electrical equipment in which the D6-type is installed.
The D6-type is available for 12A and 15A (DC).
