Via repair
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:51:02 pm »
How do you guys repair a via that has inner layer connections?
If the via connects just the outer surfaces then things are pretty clear, but if inner layers are involved, it seems that not even IPC has a definitive answer.
If you are able to get reasonably consistent results on such a repair, I'd be grateful for your advice.

They http://www.circuitrework.com/guides/5-3.shtml claim they can do it or sell you the tools. Their procedure is described in the link.

Thanks for the link, what they write sounds plausible, well kind of. Will give it a try and see how things work out.
Have you tried this yourself?

Cir-Kits in the UK used to turn out a similar kit for repair of tracks & plated through holes on double sided boards, but became very expensive in Australia,& eventually just seemed to disappear from the market.
I don't know if they are still available in the UK.

Their kits were very useful to restore damaged boards.
As far as I know, they never ventured into the repair of multi-layer boards.

Have you tried just using silver loaded conductive paint, and pushing that down the via?
