At work we have a Voltcraft VC920 (rebadged Uni Trend UT71x) multimeter, we use it seldom, yesterday I noticed that the buzzer behaves strangely. Upon switching on the multimeter it starts discrusively beeping, very annoying: beep-beep-beep.... Apart from that the multimeter measures well. Going into the menu and setting the low limit too high will change the beep to continuous tone. Setting the limits back to off resumes the discrusive beeping, switching the beeper off from the menu turns the beeper off indeed, but then it does not beep in continuity mode either, of course. The multimeter behaviour is not consistent however, yesterday, for example toggling the beeper on-off solved the issue so long the multimeter was not switched off, today this did not help. Also, the rate of beeping is about 120BPM, sometimes with measuring voltage doubles the speed, then leaving the wires open resumed to 120BPM beeping, but not always.
-I’ve tried a brand new battery (although the old one was still good)
-I’ve tried to play with the function switch, rocking a little bit
-I’ve played with the measuring wire connections.
-I’ve opened up the meter, but haven’t seen any obvious sign of failure
-In uA and mA range it does not beep (the fuse is open though, we did not care to replce it, well... for a very long time now)
I am thinking this should be some microcontroller related issue rather than a true electrical issue. Do you know if there is any way to perform some kind of reset, or reflash the firmware?
