VXI E1406A Command Module
« on: December 22, 2022, 08:52:11 am »
Anyone with any experience?  The Failed and Sysfail LEDs light up after boot as they are supposed to, go out as they are supposed to but the ready light does not come up...

Can't seem to get to it over GPIB (I'm admittedly quite green on that front, though)...

RS works better and get me this:

It was my understanding the device should then start enumerating slots, but there's nothing after this message. I thought perhaps because no cards were installed but adding two cards changes nothing.

Thoughts?

Hi Kris,

set the Address of the Command-module to 0 (ladd=Zero).
What terminal-emulation are you using?
With VT100 or VT220 you should display a menu (System, set time and date, reset, etc....).
Use the function-keys there for the menu-items.

Hope it helps.
Happy holydays.

Hey,

Thanks for the pointer. I was just using Putty. It's worth looking into these emulators, then?

The E1406A boots and the last message is about VME bus timeout, so there could be a hardware problem.
We have some E8401A crates and they have a front panel connector for checking the supply voltages. I mean some tantalums develop a short while on shelf for long time.
Also i would look at the backplane connectors. They should be clean and no bent or broken pins.

Regards, Dieter

Hi Kris,
you can do without, but you'll have to type a lot more (see the PDF).

Have you set ladd to 0?

I have two E8401A's that both have supply issues. This one is a HP 75000 that does not seem to have issues ;-)

Hah! VXI1600! Now I remember ;-)

It was already set to 0. So I dived inside. The DIP switch itself measures fine but there is some eau de batterie fume damage all around the board. No vinegar around for the moment, so that will have to wait for another day.
