WANTED: LG OLED55E6V Service Manual
« on: October 17, 2019, 03:09:02 pm »
I have a OLED55E6V which has developed banding... I think it is still covered by warranty so I won't be opening it up myself but I am interested in discovering which bits are responsible for what... any idea where I would find a service manual for LG OLED55E6V ?

(Why is this stuff so secret squirrel!)

Thanks in advance

Doesn't have schematics though.

There is no point opening it even out of warranty. There is nothing to fix unless you want to replace OLED panel itself. Just run pixel refresher. If it does not help, you are screwed.

Just run pixel refresher.
How would I do that?

From TV menu. Though if you have warranty left probably it's better if you take it into service center with problem present. Chances are that after doing pixel refresh problem will reappear after some time.

Good point.  I will not tinker.... TBH the display is very confused and the confusion sometimes moves around the screen and when turned off the screen still has some bits on which slowly fade away... probably well broken.

Could that 'even when off some bits are on' be some kind of the refreshing algorithm the individual diodes? OLED displays need to be powered all time as they do some automatic refresh every now and then.

There was an article in a German newspaper ( https://www.heise.de/select/ct/2018/22/1540617472341234 ) that turned out to be a problem caused by cut the power after switching off the TV. So the TV didn't had a chance to run the refresh (and the TV was heavily used). And LG first denied the warranty. Now there is a warning in the documentation to not cut the power.

Edit: The picture came while I wrote this post: That is a panel defect. I'm sure there's nothing you can do.

LOL, it's not "banding". It's completely dead OLED panel.

Depends on your definition of banding   :-DD but it is certainly ****ed. Looks like an addressing/memory issue to me... is that all built into the panel?  Interesting the OSD seems to show through when it isn't even meant to be present... which is what made me interested in how these things work... could it be a main board problem (since the OSD is presumably generated on the main board?) [Assuming it has a 'main board'!]

I get a lot of flat panel TVs for repair,  and this honestly looks like a damaged or cracked panel (possible hairline vertical crack - the horizontal lines end abruptly in some areas that I can see).  A video would be more helpful to determine this though.

Had the LCD Module replaced today and the repair guy said he hadn't seen a failure like it.  There was no physical damage.

Anyway, happy endings.
