This is interesting and timely for me. I am currently working on two early version of these monsters for a customer, and they must meet all the specs. I own one like yours, a later version with the 10-turn pots (earlier units had single turn pots that have become erratic) and the dead bug bodge. I was wondering about that, as I don't recall seeing it before. It too had a shorted tantalum, it boots, but no output, a project for another day.

I have worked on many of these, there were lots of design tweaks over the years, most undocumented. Getting the older versions to meet spec can be quite time consuming.
