Weird posts under resistors???
« on: April 02, 2019, 08:56:22 pm »
A few fusing resistors before a set of MOSFETS blew when a diode punched through on a HP 6034A power supply I'm working on. They are raised off the board with these weird posts. One set are just white insulators and it won't be a problem putting those on the replacement resistor. The ones that are weird are the metal ones from the picture.

What do I do with those? Should I just solder to the old legs of the blown resistor and call it good? I've never seen anything like that.

They're both just different types of stand offs that power resistors use to get them well away from the PCB to allow for better cooling.
The metal ones should be flared (but not always) onto the tracks/pads on the bottom side of the PCB.
Just use them again.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I didn't want to screw this thing up more than it already was.
