What is this connector?
« on: June 14, 2020, 03:46:55 am »
This circular connector is used on a veterinary patient monitor, somebody managed to force it in the wrong way and twisted it, shearing off all the pins. A replacement cable is >$100 so I'm wondering if this is a standard connector I can get somewhere to replace it?

Could be a "Lemo" connector?

Or you could go through this list of 5-pin cable connectors from Farnell, each will have a datasheet available to click on.

Looks like one of the Redel P series connectors.  The datasheet includes all the dimension needed to identify the variant.

I think we might have a winner here. I'm gonna have to study the datasheet and take some measurements to confirm and then figure out exactly what variant is needed.

Good result!

In my experience, it sometimes turns out that the exact part you need isn't easily available, or has been customised for the manufacturer of this specific product.

You may therefore also want to consider whether it is feasible to replace both plug and socket with something else off the shelf that will fit.

I can't replace the socket, it's an expensive medical instrument that has to work with off the shelf cables and accessories. I'm hoping I can repair the damaged cable, otherwise the option will be just buy the expensive cables.

Just a followup, a Lemo PAG.M0.5GL.AC52G plug fits perfectly, I picked one up from Digikey and installed it on the cable, plugs right in and works fine. In the meantime they ordered a new way overpriced cable so this one will be a backup for the next time someone jams it in wrong.
