Hi Folks,
I have saved a Xantrex XRF 60-20 from the dumpster.
Anyone got a service manual / schematic or even block diagram of these XRF PSU's?
I did an inspection and found a blackened Tantilum 10uF 25v cap on the input to a to LM317T (located close to where the fans are connected), so replaced that hoping that was the only issue.
Power it up to see front panel display was flashing up '1' in both Amps and Volts followed by some random numbers.
And fans were not running.
After about 30 seconds there was a little puff smoke from a UF4004 diode which feeds the input to LM317T.
The diode read less than 20 ohms so I suspected the shorted Tant had triggered the diode to fail, so I replaced the diode with a 1N4007 (which is all I had).
On the next power up, all looked good!
Front panel came up with a steady '0' and '0' (pots were turned down) and the fans were running... so progress, or so I thought.
Within 30 seconds the previously replaced diode popped open and literally broke itself in two parts while also melting the solder on its pins!
Oddly there is no other sign of overheating, nothing downstream looks baked or fried.
I'm suspecting the LM317T is responsible but it's not shorted.
So before I go any further a schematic would be really helpful, even if just to see what the LM317T is feeding etc.
Thanks
