Xantrex / Sorensen XPD Switching PSU
« on: December 01, 2021, 09:55:10 pm »
I've got a faulty little Xantrex / Sorensen XPD 500W switching PSU. I wonder if anyone has found the schematic / service manual for the Xantrex XPD range or similar as I've only been able to find the user manual.

I haven't started debugging it yet. Will post more info once I have time to start, would be great to have the schematic :)  Unit is in good condition.

Symptoms:
- powers up, but whatever setting of the front panel V, A pots it stays reading 0.0 V, 0.0 A on the display. 0V measured at output. Remote programming and OVP not active
- activating and trying the remote V programming, I notice that it briefly switches to current limit mode when applying a voltage control if the current control is set low. Still all 0.0 reading. Seems like it is trying to output but shorted.

Anyone else tried fixing one of these?

Oh well, luckily I fixed this one quite easily and it's in good condition so I'm happy with that. Quite compact and powerful.

However, it is really hard to access. It has enough PCB area to be comfortably laid out in 19" 1U or 2U, but it's been rolled up into a 1/3 width case with 2 main PCBs, plus 2 daughter boards and a front panel PCB all jammed together so that you can't access it when powered up unless you were to make some extension cables. Even then it would be hard to disassemble fully to desolder components etc.

Also, there's quite a lot to it... could be very hard to fault find without the schematic... so if anyone does come across the Service Manual / Schematic for Xantex / Sorensen switching PSUs, please share! There are a few multiturn trimmers that can be accessed externally to calibrate, so again service manual would be useful for that!
