Hello,
My FT5100 has developed a display fault. All the bottom segments and all of the bottom left segments of the numerical display have gone blank.
All looks ok in the radio i.e. cables, joints etc.
Anyone else had this problem and/or know the fix please?
The transceiver otherwise works great.
Many thanks,
Chris.

Sounds like a connector issue. how is the display connected to the board? has it had a knock or drop? Pictures might help. Karl

Hi and thank you for the reply.
The radio had this fault when I bought it; I think the display is connected by a ribbon cable. Don't know if the radio has been dropped; there are no external signs of damage though.
I have read that a common fault is the lcd backlights failing and am wondering if the display ribbon has been damaged or dislodged when the bulbs have been changed.
Problem for me is my eyes aren't what they used to be and I have trouble seeing the small electronics in newer radios.
Regards,
Chris.

I understand that they can be quite small and awkward to work with but have you thought about trying to remove and re-fit the ribbon cables. From what I have seen online it looks like a zebra strip connector between the display board and LCD unit, always known to be problematic so certainly worth a look if you have the confidence. Karl
