Yamaha HTR 3063 (RX-V367) no sound or video
« on: July 30, 2021, 11:22:27 am »
Hello,
I have a Yamaha HTR 3063 (RX-V367), which has now been dead for several years.
It worked fine for the first 2 - 3 years, then first the HDMI video went out and then later the HDMI sound also. Not even analog sound works. All this happened just after warranty   >:( >:(
The front display is good, all the controls work, the relays click, volume control works, but that's all.
The service center is charging almost 50% of its price in repair. They will change the HDMI board.
I don't know whether the board is actually bad or they are just trying to make money. How can I test the board?
I tried resetting it, but that didn't help :-//

If the board is beyond repair, can it be used as a stereo amp, by bypassing the digital circuit somehow. Please advise.

I have the service manual, but it's too big to attach.

Not even analog sound works. All this happened just after warranty : seems to be DSP problem. :palm:
This gives me a clue: charging almost 50% of its price in repair. They will change the HDMI board (Japan brands
company policy)  :(

Download service manual (your model)
See p.30 and  then see 44 to confirm if DSP goes wrong. :)

Thank you very much ambrosia.
This is the first time in years that I received a solution to my problem.
Now, atleast I know it's the DSP chip.
Thanks again for explaining everything so well. :-+ :-+ :-+ :-+

I will get back to you with further developments.

Just checked all the DSP pins for continuity with motherboard, and they all seem good. I put one lead of multimeter on the chip leg and another on the nearest connection. Is this method OK??
Checked the voltages of pins 1 to 36 (a job requiring great patience  :phew: :phew:
Will check the remaining pins tomorrow.

Measuring ALL values of a dsp chip are not important in your case. :)
When you troubleshoot a hdmi board, all voltages MUST
measure by an oscilloscope. This is a guideline from
service dept. Why see pm. :-BROKE

What you need is an oscilloscope to measure if the signal
generated from the main CPU is ok. This signal tells the
DSP to work properly. See you tube I sent to you via pm before.
You must make sure this signal is present & ok (comparing you
tube film); otherwise even you replace the DSP chip, it will
not work properly.  This explains why HDMI board is the hardest
part in troubleshooting an AV-amp. Remember measure voltages by
an oscilloscope. JUST to measure ALL VDD points is enough.  :-BROKE
Bad soldering joints in HDMI board hardly found, trust me.

Tell you a story when I troubleshooted
a HDMI board of onkyo in 2014.  This story
told you this signal was so important.
See pm.

How to measure the signal. See pm

No need to measure all voltages of a dsp chip
just measure the voltages supplied to dsp chip VDDs
Basically ALL VDDs connected to a small capacitors,
why connected to a small cap see pm.

I do not have time to help you to check voltages ALL, just DIY.
comparing with the marked ones on service manual, just 3.3V

Ask your friends,old classmates, colleagues,neighborhood
or university profs. (if you studied science) to borrow
an oscilloscope of about (10-20MHz) to measure that signal.
Once this signal is ok, you can fix this amp.

If everyone in your country HATES you, :palm: sorry, you are
unable to borrow an oscilloscope. :palm: LOL. Call friends to
help you!!! ;)

No oscilloscope, no talk. ;)

Oscilloscope very very expensive in India. Very few people have it, And they HATE me ;)

Can the receiver be used as an analog stereo amplifier, by conecting to the amp board directly?

Normally, end users reset their amp by pressing buttons. Now I am telling
you how to reset your amp by a wire. Steps see pm video and photo.

Do this experiment to reset your amp first, then dsp. 8)

Structure of amp reset and dsp reset are same. (photo upload later) ;)

Borrow an analog mutimeter with 0.5V measurement is a must. :)

Remember to cover ALL 220V input buy a cardboard such as
the large power transformer (see photo) and the standby
board to prevent accidentally touching of the live wire.

This is lastest version  see pm. :)

print it out and read it  carefully. :D
Be patient!!! when doing these 23 steps. ;)
Be careful during voltage measurement. Don't short the pins.
such as red probe making pin 1 and 2 touch each other .
I recommend using a needle see photo.

Preliminary test is very important. Why? Watch a video on you tube
I sent to you via pm. This is a reset problem of a pioneer av-
amp vsx, unfixable. This amp remains in my home. The
waveform, oh dear, fucking weird , never goes to zero.
It should go back to zero line!! (compare that one with
the yamaha reset I sent you before)

When ALL (reset and voltages of dsp chip vcc) are ok, replace the dsp chip.

Don't forget to find a tech with a good word of mouth o f desoldering
and soldering techniques. Tech. needs to remove 144pins dsp chip and
resolder it back to HDMI board. Watch him and learn some skill (pay
lesson fee for the technique of desoldering  and resoldering 144 pins dsp chip)

Important thing speak 3 times:
Don't DIY. Don't DIY. Don't DIY
Let a talented tech. earn such money.

-End-

Dear Ambrosia, you are a genius. :-+ :-+ :-+ :-+. You have very good knowledge. You have explained everything so well.

The so called 'techs' here in India, don't understand the difference between voltage and current, leave alone digital electronics. At the most they can repair old analog circuits by hit and trial  :horse:.
Aroung 15 yrs back, people used to repair computer motherboards (when motherboards were expensive), but ever since they became cheap, no one repairs them now.
The DSP chip or any other chip is not available anywhere. Aliexpress was one option, but that too is banned in India after the pandemic :palm: :palm:
I might get a used board which will cost me atleast $70. I had purchased the receiver new for $200 (at 50% discount  ;)). I can even get a used amplifier for $100. So, it is not economical to get it repaired from anyone.
Because of these reasons, it will have to be a DIY job.
I might learn to do it myself  ;), since I have nothing to lose.

Can we feed analog audio signal directly to IC21???  :-// Maybe this way it can be used as a power amplifier. I can connect it to my Denon amp. Please advise.

If you really want to do this step.  Ok, I will tell you
the steps  tomorrow.
You will suffer the consequence :palm:--- burn all speakers when volume is too high or a large dc output caused by voltage amp faulty or power amp transistors shorted, however.

If I were you, I would sell it out. It is up to you.
I have already told you the risk and consequence.   :)
