Yamaha HTR-5990 Transistor Issue
« on: May 21, 2021, 03:43:28 pm »
A little back story...One day I decided to switch speakers, only issue is one was shorted. That blew a set of output transistors out, fixed it. All that is good no other shorts or problems so I decide to plug it back in.10 seconds go by just fine then these 2 tiny components started releasing a magic smoke. Could've mistaken this reciever for a fog machine it was that bad.
Now your all caught up in my journey I have found nothing else wrong with the reciever except those 2 components. One was a capacitor, 16 volt .1 uf (board number is C408).The other was a transistor (board number is Q306). I just want to see if there is anything I have missed before I replace them.(I don't really want to have to keep ordering these from amazon or digikey.Just to create magic smoke)

Sounds like stuff upstream of the blown transistors got damaged, or perhaps you made some mistake, but part numbers mean nothing without a schematic to refer to. You're going to need to provide schematics, or trace out the relevant bits yourself, or at least pics of the board (both sides, multiple angles), to get any help.
