Yamaha RX-V673 - can't turn on, protection fired up
« on: January 21, 2023, 12:53:14 am »
Hi All,

I just replaced HDMI connector on digital input board and can't power on receiver. I try to enter self test mode using tone control + info + power button combination, and after 4th time it works. After unlock, receiver start to work. Every possible function works correctly, until I power it off. Then whole things start again.
During hdmi port repair I disconnected digital input board. I wonder if I should execute some procedure to re-initialize this board or sth ?
Is here anyone who have experience servicing this device, and can help ?

Try holding down the power button for 10 seconds to reboot. If that doesn’t work, unplug the power cable for a few minutes then try the reboot again.

I have had the same problem on occasion with my RX-V685.

thx Jeff for response.
Currently I solve this issue. The problem was faulty resistor R826, which is pull-down for I_PRT bus (which is responsible for delivering I PROTECT signal to main cpu). Visually there was no sign of malfunction on this part. Voltage on bus was correct. Only during detailed examination under microscope I saw little crack.
It was very nasty fault, because when I measure  this resistor, I push it with my probes and it start to conduct normally - 47k, but without pressure it go to around 800k. After replace, everything start to work normal.

Happy to hear of your successful repair.

Did you accomplish this without a schematic?

No, schematic was essential to find this problem.
