Hello,

My yamaha receiver drops HDMI video output for 1 or 2 seconds when you physically tap on the receiver, move it, jump near it, or there is some movie bass (probably because the cabinet its in vibrates). It's worth noting that this does not happen when the unit is cold (just turned on)  but starts after it has  been running for a little bit (the more time its been running the more sensitive to the tap it becomes). The unit is very cool to the touch and has a PC fan running on top of it.
I have no yamaha service center where I live now and looking for some pointers that can help a buddy who repairs electronics.
One thing to mention is that I believe this whole problem is due to the unit running for 2 years in a poorly ventilated location causing it to probably run hot at the time.
thanks for any help.

Bad connections at the HDMI jack itself - or poor solder connections where it attaches to the board itself. In addition to possible heat issues, the weight of
the cables themselves can contribute to this, especially if using "high-end" cables.

Most HDMI jacks are surface-mount soldered anymore. A very steady hand might be able to re-flow the solder. In my experience trying to add more solder

to connections this close together is asking for trouble.

Always suspect the cable. I went thru a similar problem with my TV, kept changing positions. Finally replaced the cable no trouble since. Tiny wires don't last forever in a stress situation.
