Yamaha RXV 3900 D video board issue
« on: June 22, 2019, 11:56:58 pm »
I have a Yamaha RXV 3900 (US version).  I recently checked for new firmware and found that the current version is 1.25.  The software in the receiver was 1.21. Previously, I used an USB stick and the .bin file to load the update.  I entered "Advanced Setup" and "Firmware Update" then selected USB. The receiver indicates "Please Wait".  After several minutes it does not show progress.  I exited the Advanced Setup and re entered trying to the Internet method without success.  The receiver shows 1.21 as my existing firmware version.  I also tried the recovery mode without success.

After several additional attempts, I took the receiver to the West Coast Yamaha repair shop (George Meyer AV) in Los Angeles.  The technician said that after trying the recovery mode, that my "D Video" board was "bad" and that Yamaha has no replacements.  From the service manual I found that the US version of the board (U) is WQ132200.  I was unable to locate a replacement board or a salvage RXV 3900 to obtain a replacement board.  This leaves me with attempting to troubleshoot the existing board.  I know on other posts that cold solder joints can cause issues.  From what I see in my attempts to load .bin file, that the receiver is not even seeing the updated .bin file.

Any ideas from anyone?  I have had no other issues with the receiver and the firmware update worked in the past and this is something new.  I can enter the Advanced Setup and see the firmware diagnostics.

Thanks in advance
