Yokogawa DL1540C Lithium Backup Battery
« on: December 11, 2021, 11:14:30 am »
Good morning (o;

Just reorganizing my electronic lab and suddenly discovered when I powered on again my DL1540C scope that it throws now an error message saying the lithium battery is dry:

Tried replacing it with two regular AAA batteries giving around 3.2V instead of 3.6V from the Toshiba ER3V battery...but still complains.
Also haven't found a replacement battery with either the same footprint...and if they have the same footprint the voltage is 3.0V only....

Any other ideas for replacing the ER3V lithium battery?

Okay..tested with an external power supply set to 3.6V....

The DL1540C still complains about the failed lithium battery....
I guess there must be a trick then to reset this error message....

Update: Got it.....Misc -> SelfTest -> Board

Works now with 2 * AAA batteries (o;

The name of the battery type is 1/2AA
Here is just one example:

Ah great, thanks :-)

Wasn't aware the Swiss company extended its business to Sweden (o;

Just have to find out which capacitors causes an ugly smell.....similar to those yellow capacitors in the old Grundig TVs in the 80s....
It's a nightmare to take apart the DL1540C ;-)

Yokogawa, being a Japanese company means I can get these exact batteries off the shelf in Akihabara. It's a Toshiba brand Lithium-thionyl Chloride battery.
Shipping would be interesting though, but any Lithium-thionyl Chloride battery of the same voltage would do the job just fine.

Here's a datasheet for this series of batteries: http://www.gracesemicon.com/pdfs/ER_Catalog_2017.pdf

Sometimes I get a bigger one on flyleads and cable tie it somewhere convenient, usually away from the PCB to help prevent potential leaky battery damage.

I remember seeing how difficult these are to take apart in this video, oddly the older DL1520 at work had a dead battery but didn't bring up any error message, now i know why calibration never bothered to do anything about it either.

Swiss? Their main office in located in Stockholm.
It used to be a really big Swedish distributor, but then they sold out and moved the warehouse abroad, damn shame that was but I digress.

Just good here they have the same battery on stock ;-)
