YST-SW800 Yamaha Subwoofer SMPS repair help
« on: September 08, 2021, 03:09:14 am »
Hi guys, I have a subwoofer that I'm trying to repair, it has a faulty SMPS and need help finding suitable alternative power transistors.

I've got the repair manual and found 4x blown power transistors and 2x resistors blown open.
They are:
2x 2sc4140 (TO3P)
2x 2sc4163 (TO-220F)

Can't find those transistors new anywhere, so I've found alternatives.

and

I only understand the bare minimum how transistors work and what all the specs mean as I'm still learning.
Are the above replacements suitable or should I use something else?

(Also before anyone asks, I'm aware of the dangers of working on mains voltage equipment and am taking relevant precautions.  :))

Check the price on a replacement board (from Yamaha Aust) as sometimes they are surprisingly cheap and make repair not worthwhile.

Hmm, I'm fixing this sub for fun and as a learning experience so I'd rather try repair it.
