My Brita filter jug's LCD Timer finally went blank recently, so I purchased a few new CR1616 lithium batteries. But even with a new battery the LCD display did not light up. So I reluctantly took out the PCB, and realized that it had been connected to the small LCD via a small strip of Zebra (elastomeric) connector.

I tested each of the lithium battery by itself as well as on the PCB and the voltages were around 2.8~2.9 volts so the batteries are not the issue. The PCB seems to be good as well -  the LCD displayed partially for a short while then tended to fade. Even with the Zebra strip, and the PCB/LCD leads cleaned with alcohol, the LCD only lit up sporadically even with pressure on the Zebra strip. Now, the LCD does not light up even with pressure on the Zebra strip.

I think the Zebra strip is finally dead. Is there an alternative (method) to Zebra (elastomeric) connector for connecting a PCB and LCD?
