Atten ADS 1102 CAL faulty rotary encoder?
hazzer:
Hello
Is anyone having problems with slow response from the rotary encoders used on the ATTEN ADS1102 CAL DSO?
On my 1102CAL model, the "cursor" encoder is slow to respond to anything but very slow rotations.
It appears to be the actual encoder as under self test it is slow to respond to input compared to the other encoders.
Id appreciate some feedback from other owners before I go and open the unit up?.
My Firmware version is 3.01.01.21
and hardware is 3.41.1.61
(encoder also controls brightness etc - and all functions are slow to update)
Regards
Harry
Update: 5rd Jan 2011
Under desktop software control the cursor function is OK - its most lightly the encoder that's at fault.
I've attache a photo of the encoder - I'm thinking I will replace all 5 on the unit with new ALPS encoders.

Parts on 30day back order (due 30th Jan 2011) - I will update with some photos on how to replace the encoders later.

Parts arrived and all 5 encoders changed. A breakdown of a faulty encoder showed excess oil on the encoder surface. All 5 new encoders are working well and I'm glad I changed all 5 - the replacements give the DSO a new life. I've used encoders with a det - ie a click effect - it may or may not be to your taste - either way you get the same resolution.
as promised photos of the breakdown

Hi,
I recently buy an ADS1152CML and I got the same problem. But me, it's all rotary encoder in fault.... Each time I turn on my scope, none of all rotary encoder is working. After a time, randomly, all working good, all the same time... I think that the firmware is in problem but I'm not sure.
Can you help me please ?
thanks in advance
hazzer:
sorry for late reply - just got your post.
If all encoders either work or dont work together - then its lightly a bad connection thats common to all. You would need to power up the scope with the boards exposed to faulty find it - if its a new purchase best to send it back for replacement.
You could also use the button self test function to help narrow down the problem and try control from a PC using the easyscope software to confirm the DSO firmware/processor is OK.

Hi,
thanks for your answer. I tested it again and each time I turn on the scope, none works. After maybe, 5 to 7 minutes, all come back... This situation comes each time I want to use it. Before return to seller, do you know where can I find the last firmware for ADS1152CML ?
thanks in advance.
