Atten ST-862D - Multicomp Pro Rebrand from Farnell (EU/UK)
« on: December 07, 2021, 09:34:26 pm »
Decided to get a new hot air station for Christmas and I have settled on the Atten ST-862D.
Looked around for a UK based retailer and can only find it on eBay, searched a bit more and found it on the Farnell website under the Multicomp Pro brand with the following part numbers:
MP740784 UK
MP740784 EU
The only difference seems to be the supplied mains plug.

It is currently £171.54 on the UK Website including VAT, but I found a code that flashed up on their site for 10% off (17099BB) which brought it down to £154.  Even at £171.54 that looked to be the cheapest I could get it in the UK.

The nozzles are reasonably priced too, I ordered the 3 45 degree angled nozzles.

What is reassuring is they seem to stock all the spare parts for this unit such as the heater element etc.
So even if you bought the Atten badged unit spares and accessories are available from Farnell.

I did check the international sites that are part of Avnet, but I could only find the 230V model available not a 110V model.

I ordered the Atten today from AliExpress however as you say for us in the U.K. this looks to be a great option.  It looks like this is their home brand so they are simply white labelling the Atten unit.  I suspect it’s identical however some tear down images would be very good to know.

Sadly I seen this after ordering this morning.
A little bit Mad here and there.

very interesting, thanks.

I see that their datasheet lists the unit for 130L/m and not 120L/m as the Atten website.

Hmm that is interesting. You would think it’s manufactured by Atten looking at it.  They either have changed something or literally just labelled it different lol.

It's definitely a re-badged Atten ST-862D, I have no idea why there are different flow ratings, maybe it's just marketing nonsense.

*EDIT*
The Atten ST-862D is listed as 130L/m on Atten's main corporate website:

I got mine (Xmas pressie from my wife) from iparts4u as I too didn’t want to buy from eBay and have used these a few times for phone spares.

Wish I’d seen your post first as I paid £189.95.

cool - the EU website is incorrect then :)

https://www.atten.eu/product/1150852/atten-st-862d-hot-air-station

Confusingly Atten EU is a reseller and distributor, not actually Atten.

Can't you cancel it on Ali? Are they asking more money to change the shipping.
I'm assuming this cost over £135, as the total when it arrives to you could be well over £200 by the time VAT and other fees have been added.

Sadly no they have just shipped.  I was £145 with the extra bent nozzles.  If it comes in £210-220 I’ll be ok compared to repair outlet but as they have shifted to fedex I have a feeling I’m going to get nailed now.

Fingers crossed here it all goes okay for you, I have to say I'm really impressed with the quality of this unit.

Well it arrived last week with no issues at all.  So far no tax invoice or request however when I have had stuff in the passed with them Iv had a tax invoice later however nothing as of today.

Overall really happy with the station although for me as a left handed I keep catching the damn button on the handle. I need to look at can this be disabled, I’m sure it read somewhere you can but need to look again.

For the money it’s a great bit of kit.

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the handle button so it just comes on when you remove from the stand ?

As I’m left handed I find I’m catching the button in use as well.

Go into settings (hold 1 and 3 for a few seconds)

Use 1 or 3 to scroll through options until you find

S - S

This will be set to “nor”

Use the air up/down buttons to change from “nor” to “For”

Press number 2 to save settings.

It will now work almost exactly as you want, automatically coming on when you lift handle from the stand, I say almost because while you don’t need to press the handle button anymore, it does still function, I don’t think it can be disabled.

Looking at the menu options you listed it seems your unit doesn't support that function or it's named something else. What version firmware does it display when you power it on?

Hi,

For those who might be considering buying one of these in Australia, I am pleased to report that when you order the UK version via the Australian element14 website they add an Australian AS/NZS 3112 to IEC power cord to the box so you don't need to source that separately.

Arriving Monday.  Will report if everything is solid.

My Multicomp pro version of the Atten 862D just arrive today and it is exactly identical to the Atten 862D.

So far, so good.  It was considerably cheaper than purchasing Atten version from US suppliers like Adafruit / etc.

Total cost out the door (including shipping, taxes, etc) was $193 vs $250 Atten list price (not including taxes / shipping) of most suppliers of Atten model.
