The best multimeter is certainly out of my price range and I would never have a need for that kind of precision.

To be  honest I was always craving for some nice 6.5 digits bench DMM, but in the end budget went down the drain and I've end up with cheap 4.5 bench DMM and hey it works just fine and does all I need.
I need accuracy for 2 digits after decimal point.

It is like with cars- there is no best car at all- it all depends on the usage scenario.

Thats like stating that a Rolls-Royce is the best car in the world- unless you drive through rough terrain where a Landrover or Mercedes G-Model or Unimog will be the best you can get for your money...

So question is: What is your priority? Do you want to have ultimate precision, ruggedized portability in an industrial environment, or maybe some good quality affordable device for hobby use?

Well, certainly there is no best one
 There are budget meters, electrician meters, meters focused in hvac, automotive and so on..

Brymens usually are good bang for buck, in quality and functionality. Take a look at the eevblog ones.

For gen purpose in electronics, anengs seems to be very usable.

Vintage meters you could check the fluke 8000s, like the super common 8020, 8024 and 8060

I often suggest the fluke 17b, for friends as is usually found in the local market, with warranty, invoice and good enough probes.

Someone would say to you the 87V is the "best", os a good and reliable meter but, expensive.

I just use a sub £10 multi meter off Ebay.
Works fine for me.

Same goes for soldering iron, I paid about £10 for mine, had it many years and rarely needs a new bit.
